Riksteatern's Tyst Teater, Sweden

Tyst Teater is a theatre that performs in Swedish Sign Language. Established in 1970, and part of Riksteatern (Sweden's 'National Touring Theater') since 1977.

Tyst Teater’s outstanding productions, staged both nationally and internationally, are written and performed by artists who are either deaf or members of the sign-language community.

Tyst Teater pushes the boundaries of theatre as we know it, challenging our understanding of what the performing arts are all about. Its repertoire, consisting of both newly written and classical plays, aims to inspire, impact and move audiences within a shared space of reflection and inspiration. Ultimately, the Theatre seeks to change expectations and challenge widespread social norms under the motto: 'Today we shape the culture and performing arts of tomorrow'.
